Lady Gaga's Post-it Note

This past week, I was given a ticket to a Lady Gaga "Monster Ball" concert. This DEFINITELY deserves a post it note. Maybe a whole stack of post-it notes. Lady Gaga release her debut CD "fame" only a year ago, and she on her second world tour.....pretty impressive!!!!!

The concert was in my home city, Los Angeles, and was hosted at the Nokia theater. Her songs can be heard on pretty much any major "pop" radio station and even on the way home we heard probably three songs produced by her. This "lady" has accomplished alot as far as fame and success, and for that I think she should be duly noted.

The show was, of course, completely sold out and considering her songs...the crowd was, well, a little weird. I have never been to a concert like this before. I have been to a lot of open air Christian concerts and well the difference between the two venues was well....night and day. Lady Gaga is very open with her support for the LGBT community. In fact, Lady Gaga has publicly proclaimed herself to be Bi-sexual. A couple of decades ago, this would have quickly made her an outcast in American culture, but the tables have turned and she is now worshiped as a culture leader.

Gay Pride is growing in popularity and I think it's time I speak my opinion on the matter. First of all, it's God's opinion that matters the most so let me quote, Romans 1: 24-28

"Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done."

God is pretty clear, homosexuality is a sin. Those who indulge in these sins are right up there with adulterers, liars, thieves, coveters, etc. I don't think that homosexuality is a WORST sin than any that I or anyone else has committed. Sin is sin, and sometimes I think Christians poorly communicate that and shun those who are homosexual because they view them as MORE sinful. I am just as depraved as a homosexual and I deserve hell just as much as they do.

However, God wants us to flee from youthful lusts (2 Timothy 2:22) and therefore homosexuals need to resist sinful lusts that go against God's word, just like I need to resist my urges for lustful behavior.

That being said, the controversial topic that never seems to go away these days is "Should gay marriage be allowed?" My short answer would be "no." My reasons are as follows and please realize this is not an exhaustive list:

1. Marriage was originally created by God as a holy union between Man and Woman.

Genesis 2:24 " But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman,
for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame."

Gay marriage does not recognize the natural needs that men and women fulfill for each other. I am not just talking about sexual needs, although that is part of it. I am talking about the child-rearing roles as well as the leadership/follower roles that men and women have a gravitation towards. Men were designed to take care and provide for their wife and family, and women were designed for nurturing their families. I realize that men can be nurturing and women can and do take care of their husbands; however, the overall protector/nurturer tendencies I believe are written into our natures and should not be overlooked.

3. Children are not given the stability of seeing mother/father relationships. They are sent mixed signals when learning their "place in life" and this leads to chaos. Take Ancient Rome for example. Romans were known for their open polygamistic and homosexual society. Their culture became so used to perverse that the government was forced to entertain the masses with disgusting entertainment at the coliseums just to keep them "happy" enough to not overthrow the current political leader. Which by the way, the government in Rome was NEVER stable because the leaders had to continually cater to the whim of the people. Rome may have been great at one point, but the decay of the morality of the people eventually lead to its demise.

4. I realize that we can try to "ban" homosexuality all we want, but people will still do as they please. Their argument, "You can't stop love," will ring continually in the air. I agree with this as human nature, when not ruled by the Holy Spirit's guidance, will run free and unchecked. I totally admit guilty to lusting after unrighteousness, and I am very thankful that I can resist such temptation with help from the Holy Spirit. My lust after men is no different from the lust of another's for someone of their same gender. If I wasn't a believer, there would be nothing stopping me from holding my thoughts and actions in check and not pursuing any of my worldly desires.

A concluding note, I am against legalizing gay marriage but I am all for pursuing the souls and lives of those who live those lifestyles. I don't think they should be outcasts in society because that's not what Jesus would have done. Jesus went after those who were lost and pursued them for His kingdom. Once a homosexual understands the true gospel and accepts it, I believe they can resist their human nature and flee from temptation.
